OUR TEAM

  • Ian Haug

    CREATIVE DIRECTOR & FOUNDER

Ian Haug knows all about the benefits of a vibrant, welcoming musical community. He was part of one when Powderfinger grew from Brisbane pub stages to become Australia’s biggest band.

Airlock started operating in a house in East Brisbane before moving to its lush rural setting in 1998. Artists to record there include Amy Shark, Powderfinger, Screamfeeder, The Grates, The Jungle Giants, Kate Miller-Heidke, Big Scary, Yves Klein Blue, Jaguar Jonze, The Belligerents, Tia Gostelow, Pete Murray and The Cairos. Shag Rock, signed to Haug’s label Airlock Records, record there.

“The main thing when people come to a place like Airlock is that they can feel like a gang together and separate themselves from everything else that is going on in their lives. They can totally concentrate on that moment doing the best performance they can possibly do. Ultimately that’s what it is all about.”

  • James See

HEAD ENGINEER | PRODUCER | STUDIO MANAGER

James See is a Brisbane-based musician turned recording engineer. James fronted a local alt-rock band through the majority of the 2000s with mild successes. James then joined Brisbane-based pop band Streamer Bendy as a guitarist, where he gravitated towards songwriting, recording, and music production. He worked alongside Swedish music producers Trinity, Martin Hansen, Arnthor Birgisson, Erik Lidbom, and MachoPsycho whilst writing and recording an album with Streamer Bendy in Stockholm, Sweden. These years helped shape the way James writes, records, and produces music – creating an environment with freedom to try, change and experiment all musical ideas, and without being hindered by the technicality of the recording process.

James has also spent time touring Australia as a stagehand, monitor engineer and playback systems tech for Australian artists. While currently working as a Studio and Theatre Technician at the Queensland University of Technology, and a recording engineer at Airlock Studios in Samford, James can also be found writing music and mixing bands in his small home studio in the northside of Brisbane. James has worked with many artists over the years such as Thelma Plum, Andy Ward, Pola Rise (PL), Cub Sport, Safia, The Predators, Hurt People, David Meggarity (Tyrone and Lesley), Olivia James, John Wilsteed (The Go-Betweens/Halfway), Litters, Andy Martin, Jowic, Suicide Country Hour, Inovo, The Bluebottles.
