OUR STUDIO

Airlock Studios was founded in 1996 by Ian Haug (powderfinger/the church/the predators) in East Brisbane and moved near Samford, Brisbane in 1998 where it remains. Airlock, is a world-standard recording studio on a bush property in the peaceful surrounds of the Samford Valley on Brisbane’s outskirts.

Airlock is 25 years old this year 2024.

The studio continues to attract local, interstate and international clients who come and bunker down.

“We want people to be inspired by everything that’s available to them here,” Haug says. “That excitement can prompt a performance they might not have had otherwise. It’s all part of the deal.”

The studio is based on a 32 I/O Pro Tools HDX System with AMEK Rupert Neve-designed console. Our full list of analog and digital equipment and instruments available can be seen on our gear page.

An all-weather deck, BBQ area and kitchen and. bathroom are all available so musicians can recharge and relax between takes.

Accommodation is available on-site.

OUR SERVICES

  • RECORDING

    Airlock offers full & half daily rates, with and without engineer. (assistant compulsory for newbies into studio)

    We have a lot of signal chain options which you can see on our gear list. All amps, pedals, keyboards, pianos, and some of the guitars are included in hire price.

  • MIXING

    We have 3 monitoring options, all the outboard gear and plug-in software you would ever need to achieve world class mixing in our studios. (please refer to the gear list)

  • PRODUCTION

    James See is the airlock In-house Engineer/ producer and sStudio Manager.

    Ian Haug is also available for special projects.

  • ARRANGEMENTS

    We have access to string and horn section players and arrangers with short notice, as well as a comprehensive list of session musicians and vocalists on call to make your recording come to life.

  • DATA TRANSFER

    Do you have an old session on 4 track? minidisc? adat? dat tapes? cassette? We can transfer all those precious old recordings across to a protools session for you to decide whether or not the session is as good as you remembered. Perhaps you might want to give it a mix after the transfer? Or you might want to do an automated mix to those old adat sessions where it used to be a performance in itself to do a mix.

  • PODCAST PRODUCTION

    Do you have a crazy cool idea and want to start a podcast? Airlock can help you record, produce, and source / record music to accompany your episodes.

  • WRITING SPACE

    With all of the instruments available to experiment with, 3 large spaces, outside areas and lots of natural light with the peace of the bush….Airlock is the ultimate location for writing sessions.

  • POST PRODUCTION FOR FILM and TV

    Airlock has an extremely large tv screen and projector capabilities for working on the sound for your film or tv project.

  • SHOWCASE VENUE

    Airlock has several different setup configurations that allow for up to a 5 piece band to be able to perform in a controlled audio environment to an audience of up to 50 people….while being recorded and filmed. Please contact Airlock for details and pricing.
